HOT NEWS (Again)
SEAFAIR TROPHY
9TH & 10TH FEBRUARY 2002, AUCKLAND, MMPBC
Just a reminder that we will be running the first round of the 1/8th Scale/Sport 40 Hydro Hi-Points Series. This and later regattas will include ample races for our boats with the cats being able to run in both the sprint races (Matrix) and endurance (Offshore) which will be on a slightly modified oval course. The Offshore races will be both 15 and 30 mins each day. (If time allows)
TECH NOTES
No real tech notes this newsletter as I have not located any, and I am going on holiday tomorrow. In stead, have a look at two recent additions to our fleet.
Adrian/s “Lamborghini” powered by a rather nice Quick Draw I believe. Nice paint scheme to. This is the cat we have clocked (by GPS) at over 90 kph.

And yet another boat from the Graham. This time a very realistic looking model of the Dubais off-shore race team “Victory” boats. I believe it is basically a Skater hull and is powered by most of a Pico with a few foreign bits to make it go. This boat proved a bit troublesome to start. But with a new plug – well you can see it went quite well. A useful tip, it is often worth trying a new plug or a different brand plug if your motor seems reluctant to run. (Hint – Don’t throw the old plug out, ‘cause it will work fine next time – promise !!)
Notes from Race day on Sunday December 9th
All boats scrutineered A-OK except for one too noisy
Safety
Enclosed footwear required in Pits
No smoking in Pits
All members to shoo extraneous kids out of pits
Noise
Becoming a problem with a complaint received. Brand new or newly modified boats will be permitted ONE warning only and if non-complying must either run at part throttle, or rig temporary muffler. Thereafter will not be permitted on water unless complies.
BBQ
Thanks to Peter Wright for his efforts over the last year but Pete will not be able to continue the BBQ because of other commitments. Pete has supplied some tongs for the future chef to wield.
Thanks also to Jason for offering the club a bigger BBQ complete with gas bottle fittings etc.
Racing
Turned out a very good day after the Saturday when it fairly persisted down. No class I boats nor any hydros. Class II off-shore only. Six 5-lap sprint heats. Two 10 min Enduros. One 15 min enduro with compulsory pit stop.
Wind and wave a bit tricky at times with quite a number of blow-offs and flips.

Buoys Design Competition
Only two entries were ever received.
Wayne’s buoys that we have been using for the last few months and which are proving a nice little earner for the club’s coffers at $5 per hit (Phil, Adrian, Malcolm and Chris so far)…
And Chris’ pool noodle that sits vertically in the water what-ever the depth. Winner by judge’s unanimous decision is Chris and no correspondence will be entered into. Please clap for the winner.

DEAR BOATERS:
During last weeks, we have been receiving biological news (protozoons and family) and the cruel effect in boating. But and take it without panic, I have the difficult mission, to tell you, that in the South Hemisphere there is an unknown aerial bacteria, that produces a syndrome, popularly called "MUCHO CHUCHO" that is waiting for its scientific name. This "thing" generally introduces itself through the transmitter antenna and from there reaches channel No 1 (normally rudder stick) and by osmosis to right thumb (left hand people is free of this effect) It attacks just in competitions (important venues only) when you have to turn a buoy or run side by side with another boat, then stick or thumb (not known what is former) begins to tremble (as San Vito disease) in such a way that you immediately crash the other boat or the buoy (what is nearest). Sometimes it finishes when boat is against the coast, 30cm into the soil or mud or with the concrete wharf 30cm inside the boat. For this reason, Be Aware of it! If you are not contaminated, yet!

Well that is all for this newsletter people – Next Club Race Day is Jan 13th.
